History
Founded in 1854 by the descendants of the Duke of Lencastre, surrounded by cork oaks and eucalyptus trees from Australia, the Herdade da Calada is hidden between the gentle hills of the Alentejo. Throughout the years it has been the target of various interventions and improvements, but preserves the beauty and elegance of the original feature of the main building and today is one of the most modern and innovative winemaking domains in Portugal, with an enotourism unit, 35 hectares of vineyards, 110 hectares of olive grove, 60 of cereals, 215 of "montado" and a magnificent accommodation.

Vineyards
Of the 420 hectares of land that make up the Herdade da Calada, only 35 are of vineyard. The low production is not a coincidence, let alone a fatality: it is the conscious choice for quality instead of quantity, and the guarantee of top wines made from the main traditional varieties of the Alentejo, respecting the region and nature. Located in the center of Alentejo, the vineyard enjoys the Mediterranean brown soils, in a warm and dry landscape, which characterizes this area.
