Monte do Casarão

São Teotónio

A HILL OF YOUR OWN
Monte do Casarão lies smack in the middle of a nature reserve, miles away from anywhere. The last mile or so of the way you’ll find yourself driving a country lane. The cottages are architect-designed, stylish yet practical and fitted with all modern conveniences. The cottages are scattered across the estate and have a view to sigh for. What makes it that bit more special is that they are all built on their own mountains. Go on, admit it: we all want a hill of our own.

86 ACRES OF BLISS
What can Monte do Casarão offer you? Exactly what made us decide to move there: a stunning countryside, absolute privacy, absolute peace and quiet. Close by you’ll find wonderful beaches, lovely villages and far too many sights to see in one holiday.

UNFORGETTABLE
When you arrive, the ‘donos de casa’ will give you a hearty welcome. They will do their utmost to render your stay unforgettable. If you wish they can even arrange breakfast in bed. But there is more: a week’s free stay is put up for raffle among our 2016 guests.

Enjoy our website and maybe you’ll soon enjoy Monte do Casarão. We hope we may welcome you there.

Eight years ago, we fell head over heels in love with Monte do Casarão. The monte “of the big House” lies smack in the middle of an impressive scenic area, far from the madding crowd and the traffic. By now, there are six houses, (unpaved) roads, there’s a swimming pool and there’s electricity, water, telephone and Internet. What makes Monte do Casarão really special is that all the houses have been built on mountains of their own, scattered across the monte. As a result, you’ll soon experience an optimal sense of freedom and peace.
In one of these houses, Casarão Velho, we have permanently reserved for ourselves. It also features as a group space. Casa Basta, Casa Marcanta, Casa Boa and Casa Valorosa have been designed for the holiday goer. Lazing away the day, reading, swimming in the central pool, going for a stroll: that’s all you ‘have to’ do, really. You don’t even have to do any shopping or cooking, as you can hire the ‘dono da casa’ to do it for you.

Monte do Casarão equals enjoying. Enjoying the owners’ friendliness and hospitality, lovely weather, nature and silence. Enjoying being in the middle of nowhere. Enjoying absolute privacy on a hill of your own.

But if you do decide to leave your hill for a bit, there’s lots to be done all around you. You can fo for long treks in the unspoilt scenery or go for a ride on the mountain bike.

Likewise, you can

go shopping in the pleasant atmosphere of São Teotónio
have lunch in the more touristy village of Zambujeira
explore the shops in Odemira, the regional capital
go fishing in Vila Nova de Milfontes
take a sunbath on Praia Carvalhal, one of the unspoilt sandy beaches, which you’ll almost have to yourself
go for a swim in the Santa Clara reservoir
surf in Aljezur, one of many surfing spots
walk on the sands at Praia do Malhão
visit the Algarve, with its stunning golf links, its huge swimming paradises, shopping malls, discos and McDonald’s
go for a little sail in Portimão
drive towards the Spanish border: to Évora and Marvão where you can observe Moorish influences
drive around in the Monchique mountains
alternatively, you can drive to Lisbon and make a day of it.

As you can see, you’ll be running out of time, before you run out of things to do.
